Perhaps you may think for the first time you see this ship as it sinking as the famous ship Titanic, but it is not . this alien ship, which we have not seen a like of it before, can be transformed from an ordinary ship to a research platform within 30 minutes.
Certainly you will wonder, how a ship like this, turns out to be a research platform and to be stable without sinking?? Is not it ...
This exotic ship called Flip and owned by the Office of Naval Research and operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California at San Diego, FLIP ship is a platform for a unique scientific research.
This ship or platform started to work for the first time on June 22, 1962 E 50 years ago as part of the anti-missile submarines at that time, and which has a length of 355 feet like almost the length of 5-story , and contains on five teams and a team consists of 11 Researcher working on many projects and research in areas as diverse as: acoustics, and meteorology, geophysics and science, and physical oceanography, and deployment of the laser experiments.
And for how the ship turn to a stable platform, is by pumping 700 tons of sea water at the end of the ship to slowly rise while the other end of the vessel rise to the top (as you see in the picture below). And the process will take about 30 minutes just to turn the ship from the horizontal to the vertical direction.
And the ship can remain afloat and stable on the surface of the sea for 30 consecutive days. But the ship lacks the mechanism to sail for navigating in the sea, so it is pulled by tugboat to the sites that it want to get to it.
And as you see in the picture (below) that there two washbasin used by the crew and the team, according to the position of the ship.
335 feet its almost the length of 30 story bldg, not 5 as written up!!!
